About Sliema

Tas-Sliema, which means ‘peace and comfort’, was once a quiet fishing village on the peninsula across Marsamxett Harbour from Valletta. Located on the northeast coast of Malta, Sliema has evolved into a cosmopolitan centre of commercial activity, shopping, restaurants and café life. Sliema also houses Malta’s largest and only indoor shopping centre, ‘The Point’ comprising some 17,000m2 of retail floor space. It is a unique shopping and leisure facility that offers everything from a pint of milk to the latest fashion, jewellery and technology. The retail mix is anchored by Debenhams department store, a supermarket, as well as a mix of some 55 other shops including fashion, sportswear, household goods and books. The complex is designed over three floors and is served by some 1,000 car parking spaces, making The Point Malta’s most accessible shopping destination.

In Sliema Malta, visitors can enjoy fine shopping and dining as part of their vacation. There are many opportunity for relaxing beach activities such as an idyllic cruise, water sports, snorkelling and diving. Another draw-card for those interested in architecture and history is the Stella Maris Church, otherwise known as the Mother Parish Church of Tas-Selima, which dates from 1878. Initially approved for construction under the condition that it was dedicated to the apostle Paul, locals pushed to have it dedicated to their adopted patroness ‘Our Lady Star of the Sea,’ and so it was.
